Deep in the bowels of Los Angeles General Hospital lies the laboratory of the legendary Baron von Frankenstein's great-great grandson (Blankfield), a physician who has for obvious reasons has changed his name to Frankenheimer. Assisted by a former short order cook (Jordan), Blankfield is secretly working to create a perfect human being. Wretched in nearly every respect, FRANKENSTEIN GENERAL HOSPITAL aspires to spoof horror films, somewhat as YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN did. It fails, however, to establish even the lowest level of credibility. Blankfield, who appeared in another genre send-up flop, JEKYLL AND HYDE . . . TOGETHER AGAIN, tries hard but his efforts are wasted on such weak material. The rest of the grossly overplayed performances are even worse. Director Roberts seems to have no idea how to pace the jokes or finish off a scene, and her idea of enlivening the proceedings appears to be having former Playmate Shower and Caple take off their blouses. FRANKENSTEIN GENERAL HOSPITAL is so bad that it induces a certain strange fascination after a while. About the only thing authentic in the picture is a brief appearance by Pickett, who recorded "Monster Mash" with the Crypt Kickers in the late 1950s. leave a comment
