Though the weak-hearted and taste-conscious should approach with extreme caution, the predisposed will find this horror farce a funny, stunningly gross black comedy that boasts surprisingly effective performances from its unknown leads.

Jeffrey Franken (James Lorinz), a resident of Hohokus, New Jersey, works in a power-plant and plays mad scientist in his spare time. His fiancee, Elizabeth (Patty Mullen), has a tragic lawn-care-related accident but resourceful Jeff manages to save her head. He schemes to construct a new body for his betrothed with remnants of expired ladies of the evening. After he gathers the most appealing limbs, he sews them together, attaches Elizabeth's head, and waits for an electrical storm. It isn't long before his "Frankenhooker" is staggering up 42nd Street, wreaking late-night havoc and frying johns with her lethal high-voltage love.

Granted this is tasteless shlock, but in Henenlotter's capable hands it manages to be quite funny. Lorinz's acting style is as wildly funny as it is wanly low-key; he is more than matched by former Penthouse Pet Mullen. A genuine find as Frankenhooker, Mullen pays fond, funny tribute to Elsa Lanchester's BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN with her remarkably refined comic performance. leave a comment
