FOUR ROOMS
starstarstarstar
Quentin Tarantino engineered this seemingly inspired confluence of four leading indie talents: Allison Anders (GAS FOOD LODGING), Alexandre Rockwell (IN THE SOUP), Robert Rodriguez (EL MARIACHI) and the PULP-meister himself. The result? A ghastly train wreck of a movie, littered with the corpses of promising careers. Four darkly comic tales play themselves out -- with virtually unrelieved ineptitude -- in various rooms of the decadent, dilapidated Mon Signor Hotel (read: Chateau Marmont). Bellboy Tim Roth, in a grimly determined and profoundly unfunny homage to Jerry Lewis, copes with a pair of perverts, a couple of brats, a coven of witches and a gaggle of drunken Hollywood jerks. Assets: Madonna in a black rubber mermaid dress; Amanda deCadenet doing a very respectable Betty Page impersonation. Liabilities: just about everyone and everything else. leave a comment
