An escaped convict (Ray) wants a new trial since, notwithstanding his past criminal activities, he was sent to prison on false charges. He holes up with his younger brother (McCallum) and two pals (Maddern and Justini) on a fortress island off Sydney harbor, then threatens to blow up the
city unless he's given a retrial. The police comply in this no-thrills thriller. Though the opening includes some suspenseful moments, the direction flags thereafter and never recovers. The performances are good but can't compensate for the film's lack of action and obvious directorial flaws.
