An unjustly court-martialed cavalry sergeant, Beir, gallantly takes control of a patrol to Fort Courageous after the commander, Barry, is wounded in an Indian attack. When the men finally reach their destination, they discover that the fort has been wiped out, leaving only one survivor. Forced to stay and face the Indian onslaught, Beir proves himself by organizing his troops to fight off the attacking forces again and again until, the soldiers' bravery winning the respect of the Indians, they settle for a draw.
