Fort Apache, The Bronx

The title of this film comes from an actual police station in the most dilapidated area of the present-day disaster area known as the Bronx. Murphy (Paul Newman), a good cop trying to do his duty in this rough environment, is shown making the rounds on his beat in episodic fashion--talking a drag queen out of committing suicide, protecting a killer prostitute from her murderous pimp, delivering a baby, and disarming a psychopath by making grotesque faces and acting equally crazy.
