Knox, a white boy, and Ndebele, a black youngster, are brought up in a South African mission by priest Ferrer, nun Finney, and Peace Corps volunteer Valentine. Overcoming racial tensions, the boys become close friends, but tragedy strikes when Knox becomes very ill and must be flown to New
York City for special treatment. Ndebele follows--but winds up lost and alone in Harlem. The boys are reunited for a happy ending, however.
