This is not quite a sequel to THE GUNS OF NAVARONE, but it comes close. This time the squad is sent to Yugoslavia to blow up a bridge vital to the German war effort. Ford (fresh from a different "force" in STAR WARS) is the American member of the team, paired with Weathers as a black soldier whose patience with racial hatred has been exhausted. Fox, giving the film's best performance, is a demolitions expert; the exotic-looking Bach is a partisan who helps their cause; the gigantic Kiel is a Nazi conspirator; and Nero is a Nazi double agent. Heading up this motley crew is Major Mallory (Shaw), a Briton who survived the Force's previous attack at Navarone. You get the picture. The action sequences, especially the climax, are painfully deficient, one of the many demerits of Hamilton's dull direction. Only the cast makes this worth catching for less demanding fans of the war genre. leave a comment
