Montgomery, a patent medicine seller, falls in love with ice cream girl Court, but his wife (Burke) won't give him a divorce. He increases the shrew's dosage of pills in an attempt to provoke a heart attack, and coming home later he finds her dead. After secretly burying her, he finds
the extra pills he had given her. Police track him down after a chase, but they know that Harding died of natural causes. Quite good, if somewhat bleak, drama. One of several films Montgomery, a Hollywood leading man in the 1930s, made over the next decade in England.
