This bizarre film debut for the studiously quirky rock band Oingo Boingo was directed by Richard Elfman, brother of the group's songwriter and lead singer, Danny Elfman, who would go on to write musical scores for a number of other films, including BATMAN; BEETLEJUICE; PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE (all for director Tim Burton); MIDNIGHT RUN; and SCROOGED. Filmed in a humorously sly expressionistic style, FORBIDDEN ZONE features "Fantasy Island" star Herve Villechaize as King Fausto, the crazed ruler of the Sixth Dimension, who, along with his queen (Susan Tyrrell), performs deviate sexual acts with a gross assortment of monsters, varmints, and toadies amid Elfman's strange and effective sets. Not everyone's cup of tea, but definitely a must-see for fans of the band. leave a comment
