This soft-core noir is yet another blunted permutation on JAGGED EDGE. As a courtroom drama, the film is undistinguished but watchable; as erotica, it falls flat. When exotic dancer Virginia Hill (Kirstine Calstrand) gets offed after a night of kinky sex, the prime suspect is her sex-club employer David Mulholland (Corbin Tim Brook). Having failed to nail Mulholland for a previous homicide, LAPD detective John Doherty (Myles O'Brien) plants crime-scene evidence to ensure Mulholland's conviction. Enter Doherty's ex-wife, attorney Maureen Doherty (Shannon Tweed), who vigorously defends Mulholland after he passes a lie-detector test -- and seduces her. Luckily for the defense, Virginia's lap-dancing partner Molly Malone (Amy Lindsay) claims Virginia had another gentleman caller the night of her demise. Furthermore, Claire Peterson (Kelly Rebecca Walsh), Wife of the club bartender, states that Virginia was blackmailing her husband over his skimming operation. Proving that her ex-spouse framed Mulholland, Maureen wins a dismissal. However, Maureen learns that Mulholland has bedded both Molly and Claire to secure their perjury. As murderous charm-boy Mulholland demands Maureen turn over Claire's bogus blackmail evidence, Doherty arrives and shoots holes in both Mulholland and his alibis. The moral is obvious: Due to the sexual frustration of gorgeous female lawyers, playboy murderers have a good chance of going free. Whereas Mulholland's culpability is no surprise to the audience, the fact that he has two accomplices does provide a jolt. Still, armchair detectives will peg Mulholland's guilt as soon as his penchant for recreational handcuffs surfaces. As a boudoir-bounce, this film is even less surprising: It focuses on the younger bimbos and reserves Tweed for the climax. Teasing the audience, Tweed eventually throws herself into the mattress gymnastics wholeheartedly. Although the crime denouement satisfies us, Tweed could be a little less stingy about exercising her exhibitionist prerogative. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
