Underwater programmer featuring Farrow as a psychotic treasure hunter who hires freelance frogmen, headed by Hall, to recover an emerald that went down in a shipwreck. When one diver discovers evidence leading him to believe that Farrow killed someone to get the gem in the first place, Farrow knocks off the diver by damaging his aqualung. This leads to a frogman free-for-all in which everyone is killed. Wickedly offbeat underseas adventure with all of the cast performing superbly. Hall, who had scored well in John Ford's HURRICANE, had been an accomplished swimmer since the age of five and performed his own water acrobatics, including spectacular high dives of more than 130 feet. Other South Seas films where Hall's swimming expertise can be seen include ALOMA OF THE SOUTH SEAS (1941) and ON THE ISLE OF SAMOA (1950). leave a comment
