Poitier is a trucking executive who runs a gambling operation from inside the trailer of one of his company's trucks. He is coaxed by a pair of white Long Island teenagers to date their maid, who they fear is leaving their household because her life lacks romance. The two hit it off, but
the relationship cools when Lincoln learns that Poitier had been blackmailed into dating her in the first place. True love wins out, and they finally wed, leaving the family to its own devices back on Long Island. The title song, by Quincy Jones, was nominated for an Oscar.
