Footsteps In The Fog

In this well-acted but slow-moving movie, Granger murders his wife in turn-of-the-century London. He is discovered by maid Simmons, who has always secretly loved him. She blackmails her way into the housekeeper position, and Granger decides he has to kill her too. Pursuing her in the fog, he mistakes someone else for her and kills a stranger. Arrested and put on trial, Granger is saved from the gallows by testimony from Simmons, who then tightens her psychological grip on him. Granger schemes to have Simmons charged with attempted murder by giving himself small doses of poison, but he accidentally overdoses and dies. Simmons is arrested for murder.
