Hayden Panettiere About to Get Footloose?

Hayden Panettiere

Does Hayden Panettiere have the fancy footwork and powerful pipes to trump Julianne Hough? Possibly.

The Heroes star has auditioned for the role of Ariel Moore — a part for which Dancing with the Stars' Hough is also reportedly being considered — in the musical remake of Footloose, E! reports. (Lori Singer played Ariel in the original film.)

Panettiere sang for director Kenny Ortega and filmmakers, who were ...

Audiences May Be Cutting Footloose Sooner Than Expected

Now that Zac Efron's latest High School Musical song-and-dance opened with a $42 million weekend, Paramount Pictures is hoping to "kick off its Sunday shoes" a little faster than expected.

According to Variety, Paramount would like to get its remake of Footloose, which reteams Efron with HSM director Kenny Ortega, into production by spring 2009. The Closer: Director Kevin Bacon Promises Big Shocks

Kevin Bacon with Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer

If you thought, as I did, the aftermath of the shooting that concluded last week's episode of TNT's The Closer (Mondays at 9 pm/ET) seemed a bit pat, rest assured that things are not as they seem. Because amidst the anxiety Brenda is dealing with as a result of her early-onset-menopause diagnosis, the tough-talking deputy police chief is this week forced to do the thing she hates most — and as her parents pay a most important visit, no less. Kevin Bacon, who directed his wife Kyra Sedgwick and the rest of the Closer cast in tonight's episode, previews what's ahead for Brenda, Fritz, et al, as well as discusses his intense new film, the Footloose remake and a cause very close to him. TVGuide.com: I understand that despite the last week's coz read more

Kevin Bacon Clears the Air About Footloose Remake

Kevin Bacon by John Shearer/WireImage.com

While speaking with Kevin Bacon about this Monday's episode of The Closer, where he once again directed wife Kyra Sedgwick, TVGuide.com asked for the actor's thoughts on the recently announced Footloose remake starring High School Musical's Zac Efron. "I've heard about it," says Bacon, "and it's great, but of course the truth is they're not really remaking the movie that I was in. They're remaking the Broadway musical [which premiered on the planks in 1998]."In other words, what we have here is a situation exactly à la Hairspray, says Bacon. "You had a movie that was not a musical becoming a Broadway musical, and they make a movie of that."Nonetheless, does Bacon find a certain added validation in that something he did so long ago keeps on dancing? With a near-chuckle, he answers, "Um, I can find validation other ways."Look for my complete Q&A with Bacon in Monday's Interviews & Features.Related: Zac Efron Brings Home the Bacon in Footloose Redo read more

Zac Efron Brings Home the Bacon in Footloose Redo

Zac Efron by Steve Granitz/WireImage.com

Let's hear it for the boy! Paramount is developing a full-blown musical remake of 1984's Footloose, with High School Musical cutie Zac Efron picking up where Kevin Bacon's be-bopping, Walkman-toting Ren left off. HSM helmer Kenny Ortega is in talks to both choreograph and direct the redo. The original Footloose, for those so young you sicken me, concerned a rebellious newcomer's arrival in a small town that has banned dancing. (And no, it's not where Ashlee Simpson lives.)Related: Kevin Bacon Clears the Air About Footloose Remake read more

Greetings! Pandy (from your ...

Question: Greetings! Pandy (from your Jan. 31 column) is just very confused. She's actually thinking of the show Cover Up, which initially starred Jon-Erik Hexum and Jennifer O'Neill as spies who masqueraded as a model and a photographer, respectively. The Terence Knox confusion is coming from Knox-like Anthony Hamilton, who took over the male lead after Hexum accidentally killed himself on set. The theme was indeed by Bonnie Tyler, but it was "Holding Out for a Hero," also on the Footloose soundtrack. Thanks.Answer: No, no — thank you, Troy, and all the others who wrote in to help clear up the confusion. As I read more

was faster than the quickstep with his off-the-cuff humor tonight — calling the rowdy audience soccer fans, warning the judges not to tell Drew Lachey he wasn't "in sync," suggesting that Master P start a line of dancing shoes. I was also tickled by the way George Hamilton was orchestrating all these little soap-operatic scenes for the moments just before the commercial. I'm glad some people are taking the competitive edge off things.
