Title refers to the train driven by Marriott, a longtime engineer who's made an enemy out of fellow employee Hurley by reporting the latter's drunkenness to higher-ups. Hurley decides to reap his vengeance against the engineer on Marriott's last day before retirement by seeing that the train crashes. The plot fails through the timely interference of Johnson, Marriott's daughter, and Milland, her lover. One of Milland's first feature roles, made prior to his coming to Hollywood, was originally made as a silent, with the soundtrack added a year after initial release.
