The one-nore premise of this film, the feature debut of writer-director and editor Carrie Ansell, is a sort of washroom confidential: The action takes place entirely inside a pair of nightclub bathrooms, where gen-X singles confide their physical attributes, sexual escapades and angst-ridden personal dilemmas. We're witness to the peevish insecurities of a round-bellied girl in a flat-bellied world; the neurotic prattling of a Woody Allen-like nebbish struggling with not-so-latent homosexual tendencies; and an empowered woman who’s discovered the magic of certain bodily fluids, which, when dabbed behind the ears, have the power to ensnare men. A cast of unknowns tries to emulate the deadpan scatological humor of indie comedies by Kevin Smith and Richard Linklater, but deliver only feckless, banal chitchat. The minimal premise holds the potential for absurd drama (think Harold Pinter or Samuel Beckett), but the repetitive toilet-side vignettes are merely distatseful. For a brilliant and hilarious picture in a similar vein, try Greg Mattola's THE DAYTRIPPERS (1996). leave a comment --Rachel Liebling
