A forgettable comedy about a vaudeville troupe travelling through South America with Brown leading the way. After blowing their big chance and feeling that he let down his performers, Brown decides to kill himself so the troupe can collect his life insurance. Carrillo, the Paraguayan bandido insulted by Brown in his lust for lifelessness, is entertaining as he ignores the little loudmouth's affronts. One would think that Duna's off-key warbling on "El Bandellero" and "Mate" would be enough to do in anyone. This was the first independent film to be released by MGM, a policy switch which may have resulted from producer Loew's family connection with the company, rather than from the picture's intrinsic merit. leave a comment
