Flesh Feast

1970, Movie, R, 72 mins

A truly bizarre entry in the Veronica Lake filmography, this extremely gross horror film was coproduced by the actress, who came out of a 22-year-old retirement to appear here. Lake stars as Dr. Elaine Frederick, a Miami Beach plastic surgeon who just happens to be a former mental patient. This could explain why she chooses a somewhat radical form for restoring youthful good looks--the use of specially bred flesh-eating maggots, which chew away old skin tissue before Dr. Frederick works her medical wonders. Things proceed nicely until she discovers that her newest patient is Adolf Hitler! Dr. Frederick's mother, a victim of Nazi concentration camps, is gleefully avenged as Hitler is munched on by a myriad of maggots. Though the film is a rather grotesque end to a distinguished career, Lake discussed FLESH FEAST rather fondly in her autobiography, Veronica. She died in 1973. leave a comment
