The kind of film they don't make anymore, and with good reason. Philip Bosco is a New York cab driver who dreams of being a Shakespearean actor, an ambition drilled into him by his father, William Hickey, seen in flashbacks. His ex-wife, Olympia Dukakis, is a habitual gambler raising their son to be the same. His current girl friend, Linda Thorson, is stepping out on him with her art teacher.
