Afghan refugees in New York City struggle to assimilate while maintaining a connection to their cultural heritage, even as their homeland fades into distant memory in Jawed Wassel's impassioned debut feature. Up-and-coming painter Haris (Baktash Zaher) was an adolescent when his family was killed during the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. He has no Afghan friends in America, but is haunted by dreams of his dead father and the village where he was born.
