A very interesting, but somewhat flawed, psychological drama starring Keitel (in one of his best performances--in a film filled with good performances) as the son of a Mafia chieftain. The Mafioso, Gazzo, wants his boy in the family business, but Keitel's ambition is to be a concert
pianist. The conflict between the young man's own desires and what he perceives his father's to be creates tension that brings him almost to the exploding point. Although all this is engrossing, director-screenwriter Toback tends to muddle things up by introducing too many psychological sketches
