Loy is a no-nonsense editor of a women's fashion magazine. She wears a gold band on her ring finger, despite her single status, to protect her from male clients, salesmen, and possibly jealous wives. Of course, this simple ring is not enough to stop one man, the ever-on-the-prowl Douglas.
He plays a portrait artist who tries to woo the stodgy businesswoman, with little success. But the inevitable happens, romance blossoms and Loy is suddenly faced with the problem of explaining her wedding ring. THIRD FINGER, LEFT HAND was made at the height of Loy's popularity with the American
public, and she does a good comic job here. Unfortunately, the story is ever so routine...
