Created by Otto Messmer in 1919, Felix the Cat starred in hundreds of cartoon shorts but never appeared in a feature until 1989, when Don Oriolo — whose father, animator Joe Oriolo, worked closely with Messmer for decades — wrote and produced this sci-fi adventure. Felix comes to the aid of Princess Oriana, who lives in another dimension and whose kingdom is threatened by the machinations of her evil uncle. He marshals a robot army, kidnaps Oriana and forced her to sing at the circus in Progress City, a once mighty metropolis that's fallen into ruin and decay. Felix and his bag of tricks save the day, eventually defeating the robot army and returning Oriana to her throne. The animation is uneven and the robots might be too scary for very small children, but Felix the Cat lovers should will enjoy his foray into STAR WARS-accented (the villainous Duke of Zill is a dead ringer for Darth Vader) science fiction. leave a comment
