A ravishingly beautiful 19th-century romance that's so sumptuous and subtle, it makes you want to scream. Deserted by her lover, pregnant Bella Ford (Embeth Davidtz) miscarries on a desolate country road and stumbles into the home of kindly lamplighter Ben Wainwright (Tom Bell). All three of Wainwright's sons fall in love with her; naturally, no good comes of it. There's nothing really wrong with FEAST OF JULY, the feature debut of British TV director Christopher Menaul (Prime Suspect). But there's nothing particularly right with it either -- it's just another picture-postcard tragedy in fancy dress, and fine if you like that sort of thing. leave a comment
