Andrews is a Korean War vet who had been brainwashed as a prisoner of war. Arriving back home in Washington, DC, he discovers that his public relations-opinion research firm is being run by communists. His partner was killed in a mysterious accident, and his firm is now promoting
communist-backed organizations. It is also fixing polls to swing public opinion. Tourneur's fresh direction keeps the film from becoming just anti-red propaganda.
