Powers plays a young woman who is framed for murder when she is sent on a train to San Francisco (from Los Angeles) on business by her boss, Harding. She is knocked unconscious in her sleeping compartment, only to waken next to the corpse of a woman who had been sharing the compartment. Police detective Karnes takes Powers off the train, but she escapes and is picked up on the road by Bergerac. The friendly motorist accompanies the distraught woman into her home where she discovers the dead body of her friend Baer, an alcoholic writer whom she had let use her apartment for the weekend. Shaken, she tells Bergerac of the events of the last few hours and admits that she had once been a patient in a mental hospital. Smelling a rat, Bergerac takes Powers back to Harding who denies he even sent her to San Francisco. Eventually it is revealed that Harding had murdered his wife and planted the body with former mental patient Powers so that it would look like she had become a homicidal maniac. Harding kidnaps Powers and takes her to the mountains to kill her (and make it appear to be a suicide), but Bergerac follows and rescues the innocent girl. leave a comment
