This Italian comedy was an award winner at the 1950 Venice Film Festival. Fabrizi, the priest in OPEN CITY, is a father searching for his daughter's communion dress. The hunt through the city holds the majority of laughs. He's harassed by a traffic cop, his car breaks down, and he can't
get a taxi. Finding the dress, Fabrizi takes a bus, ends up in a fight, and ruins the dress. Fabrizi tries to buy a neighbor girl's dress and pleads to have the communion time pushed back. Unknown to him, his daughter already has a new dress.
