Gleefully sordid, violent, good-humored exploitation from Russ Meyer, the thinking person's skin-flick director. A trio of exotic dancers, led by the impossibly bosomy Tura Satana, cruises through the deserts of Southern California on a lust-driven quest for kicks, wreaking death on a series of salivating, treacherous males. Technically impressive, especially at a budget of $40,000, the film amply evidences the director's (somewhat uncomprehending) fascination with female anatomy, hipster attitude, and West Coast youth culture. Probably the most lighthearted and enjoyable of Meyer's films, FASTER, PUSSYCAT was embraced by a new generation during its art-house re-release in 1994; many viewers detected a feminist subtext beneath its extravagantly campy surface. leave a comment
