A dismal courtroom drama which has Fairbanks getting sent to death row for the murder of a man who fancied his wife, Young. Although it is quite clear that Fairbanks is innocent, he is condemned to death by the unbelieving jury. In the proverbial nick of time Fairbanks is saved from his fatal trip to the electric chair by the discovery that the murder was actually committed by the son of Governor Holden. A happy ending for lovers Fairbanks and Young, but the governor is stricken with grief when his son kills himself. Ill-conceived dialog and illogical situations undermine any strengths the film may show. Holden, who died in 1932 and is not to be confused with the modern-day leading man, at one point remarks: "This has been an awful ordeal for all of us," a comment viewers laughingly interpreted as being directed at this film. leave a comment
