The first of three "Fantomas" films made by the same team. Marais plays a dual role: Fantomas, the super criminal, and Fandor, a newspaper reporter who says Fantomas is a creation of the police to explain unsolved crimes. Naturally this infuriates Fantomas. Having a metal face has forced
him to become a master of disguise, so he evens the score by disguising himself as Fandor and the police commissioner (De Funes) for his next series of crimes.
