Crackling with inspiration, Wong Kar-Wai's dazzling follow-up to Chungking Express is one of those rare films that feels as fresh and exciting as anything that's come before it. In the garishly lit late-night world of Hong Kong, the lives of four lonely people briefly intersect: a jaded hit man (Leon Lai); his beautiful partner (Michele Reis), whom he's never actually met; a bleach-blond nightcrawler (Karen Mok); and a child-like felon (Takeshi Kaneshiro), who breaks into closed-up shops and opens them for business.
