Nakadai is an industrialist whose face is severely burned in a factory accident. A plastic surgeon creates a mask for him, so, when his wife tries to seduce him, he accuses her of adultery. She leaves him, saying she knew it was him. Nakadai drives himself crazy, rapes a woman and kills
the plastic surgeon who created his misery. Unrelentingly bleak story of a crisis of identity.
