Big-band superstars Toommy and Jimmy Dorsey play their adult selves in this biopic that stresses their father's role in their success. The film opens in the Dorseys' Pennsylvania hometown, where Mr. Dorsey encourages his sons to work at their music as a means of escaping their industrial environment. The brothers squabble incessantly until the death of their father brings the sibling rivals together for a charity performance, and from there they go on to make musical history. The story is fairly standard, but there are plenty of musical numbers, including a jam session in which the Dorseys join Art Tatum, Charlie Barnet, and others. There are also guest appearances from the likes of Helen O'Connell, Bob Eberly, and Paul Whiteman.
