Michelle Pfeiffer was well on her way to becoming a respected Hollywood actress by the time she co-starred in this low-profile 1989 comedy, but the minute she mounted the piano and broke into "Makin' Whoopee," she became a star. Pfeiffer plays Susie Diamond, the smart, hard-headed and unsentimental lounge singer who comes to the rescue of the Baker boys (Beau and Jeff Bridges), a pair of piano-playing brothers whose act is on the skids.
