This improbable but exciting thriller stars William Hurt as Daryll Deever, a janitor who is infatuated with TV newscaster Tony Sokolow (Weaver). When a murder occurs in Daryll's building, Tony interviews the building's residents, and Daryll pretends to know something about the killing so he can get to know the beautiful reporter. In the process, Tony falls for Daryll, but the real culprits, including Tony's suave and calculating beau (Plummer), assume the janitor knows more than he does and go after him.
