Elizabeth Carlson (Nastassia Kinski) leaves her Wisconsin home and travels to the big city to become a concert pianist or, failing that, a model. Working as a waitress, she is soon discovered and becomes a top model. She falls in love with a concert violinist and zealous antiterrorist
(Rudolf Nureyev) and follows him to Paris, where she is inveigled into a plot to expose an international terrorist (Harvey Keitel). A diverting piece of glitz, the film has attractive people doing odd and interesting things in strange and wonderful places.
