Psychiatrist Brent meets and falls in love with Lamarr, who is married to insane philanthropist Lukas. Lamarr lives in constant fear of Lukas and when Brent comes to take her away from him, Lucas fills the house with gas and threatens to blow them all up. The men struggle, Lamarr and her
young son escape, and Brent escapes just as the house explodes. Just another melodrama as scripted, but in the hands of horror-and-fantasy director Tourneur and with excellent performances by all the principals, a film well worth watching.
