Excuse My Dust

Set at the turn of the century, this comedy features Red Skelton in top form as Joe Belden, an eccentric inventor forever tinkering with gadgets and gizmos, much to his neighbors' and relatives' chagrin. Pretty, petite Liz Bullitt (Sally Forrest) loves his strange ways, but her father (William Demarest) just thinks he's a loony (as, for the most part, he is). Moreover, he owns a livery stable and the mere thought of Joe's proposed horseless carriage drives Dad into a rage. Woven expertly into this very funny film are some delightful numbers, including a period dance piece that cleverly segues into the modern era when the participants imagine what life would be like...
