The Evil That Men Do

1984, Movie, R, 90 mins

Bronson is a true anomoly among actors today. While most constantly bemoan the limited range of the parts they are offered, Bronson seems to revel in limiting his range to one role, the vengeance-obsessed vigilante. Here he plays Holland, a hit man called out of retirement to kill a British doctor (Maher) in Guatemala. The doctor, an expert at torture, works for the repressive regime there and is protected by some sinister US agency. Car chases, multiple deaths, and big guns are all seen in abundance before the finale. Bronson certainly knows his way around this kind of story, and his performance is simple and direct. Although he is in impressive shape for a man in his 60s, however,he is just too old to be galivanting around the jungles of Central America with a submachine gun. Despite several bad or indifferent performances, though, the film does succeed in its primary goal, to provide 90 minutes of fast-moving and fairly exciting action. leave a comment
