An adolescent love relationship that ends sourly precipitates a downhill slide for Tsukasa in this gloomy example of post-war Japanese filmmaking. Tsukasa, a high school student, marries a teacher after he ruins her relationship with a college student. Soon he begins beating her and she
runs away. Meeting up with a Korean, she achieves a little peace, but her husband appears and gets her fired from her job. She next marries another student, and he is drafted to serve in the army during the waning days of WW II, meeting his death in a sea disaster and leaving Tsukasa with a baby
and a gloomy future.
