Rutting suffers mightily in this weepy melodrama after she discovers that her fiance is that father of her best friend's child. She moves to the country and finds a new love, schoolmaster Holm, but local gossip forces her to flee. Later, she returns to Holm, who has been badly burned while saving a drunk from a fire.
