No Escape

Ayres plays a down-and-out songwriter reduced to playing piano in a San Francisco bar. When an artist, Griffith, turns up dead, the clues point toward Steele but her police detective boy friend, Tufts, fixes things so Ayres will take the fall. She cannot let this happen though and tries to help Ayres escape. The city is crawling with cops and the pair end up in Griffith's apartment. There they are cornered by the real killer, Tufts. Just as he is about to kill them too, the police enter and arrest Tufts. The plot seems suspenseful but the lackluster direction has no feel for thriller pacing.
