A surrealistic picture that brings to the screen the images of famed Colombian writer Garcia Marquez, ERENDIRA is the story of the 14-year-old title character (Ohana), who lives in luxury with her witch of a grandmother (Papas). One day Erendira's carelessness in extinguishing candles leads to a fire that completely destroys her grandmother's possessions. The grandmother simply informs the girl, "My poor darling, you will not be able to live long enough to pay me back," as she sets off across the country with the young girl in tow.
