Enormous Changes At The Last Minute

A trio of stories by writer Grace Paley are adapted for the screen in this only partially successful film. In the first, and strongest, of the segments, Ellen Barkin is a young mother whose husband walks out on her. Ron McLarty, an old friend of hers, offers Barkin romance, but she turns him down. McLarty is hardly deterred, though. The second story follows Lynn Milgrim, a divorced Jewish mother of two, as she visits her religious father. During the visit she comes to realize the mundane life she leads. The final piece deals with Maria Tucci, a divorced but financially well off social worker.
