A strange, touching film. Robert Young stars a disfigured, suicidal WWI veteran who meets a shy, plain woman (Dorothy McGuire) who's also shunned by society. They marry and move into seclusion inside a small New England cottage, all that's left of a great estate which burned down years earlier. As time passes, he slowly regains his handsome face and she blossoms into a beautiful young woman. It's all an illusion, of course; they're simply seeing each other through the lovers' eyes.
