Originally released in 1987 shorn of a full hour of footage, this breathtakingly beautiful pageant from director Bernardo Bertolucci has been restored to its intended length. Clocking in at just under four hours and employing some 19,000 extras, the film charts the turbulent development of a single man and an entire nation, and is an epic in every sense of the word.
