A comedy set in 1945 Ireland with the IRA as a backdrop. The townsfolk plan to build a monument to a rebel killed in the 1920s and Phillips, the son of the British colonel who killed the rebel, opposes its construction. Rodway, the rebel's son, destroys the newly unveiled statue and places
the blame on Phillips. The townsfolk prepare to lynch the vandal but Rodway's confession prevents that. This unlikely subject for a comedy is slanted in favor of the British.
