Eat And Run

A potentially funny premise is driven into the ground by repetition in this tedious takeoff of science fiction and horror films. Ryan is a bald, 500-pound, human-looking alien dressed in a loud plaid suit, who becomes addicted to "Italian food" after he eats the first Earthling he meets, an old Italian sausage-maker. The alien makes his way to Manhattan's Little Italy, where he has a quick meal of 35 Italians. The police treat the disappearances as missing persons and assign Silver, a dim-witted Irish cop, to investigate. Eventually Silver realizes that all the victims were Italian. While phoning his commander from a pizza joint, he witnesses Ryan eating the waiter. Of course, no one believes him. The few genuinely funny moments in EAT AND RUN are buried under an avalanche of stupid bits, silly dialog, and a distracting amount of gratuitous swearing. First-time director Hart, who shared scriptwriting responsibilities with his father, Stan, never expands his ideas past the original joke and simply repeats the same gags over and over ad nauseam. leave a comment
