Disappointing New York City saga shot on a badly constructed set on Warner Bros. back lot. Garfield's performance is overblown as the brother gone bad in a family run by a stereotypical Italian mother, Rambeau. He and his adopted brother Lundigan get into the usual boyhood mischief, but, as they grow older, their lives take different paths. Lundigan goes to college and Garfield gets out of San Quentin just in time to attend the graduation ceremony. With girl friend Marshall in tow, Garfield arrives home and soon finds himself in trouble with the mob. Marshall and Lundigan fall in love and announce their engagement, much to the dismay of Garfield. The climactic moment comes during the wedding ceremony when the mob shows up and Garfield stalls them long enough to hear the vows exchanged. Take-off of MANHATTAN MELODRAMA. leave a comment
